KIERAN TIERNEY is hoping Gordon Strachan will rely on Celtic’s six pack to muscle in on England’s World Cup hopes next month.

The 19-year-old has been named in the Scotland squad for the June 10 showdown at Hampden alongside Parkhead team-mates Craig Gordon, Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths.

And he reckons the mentality that has out the Hoops in touching distance of a historic Treble can be a vital weapon in the bid to keep alive our qualification hopes for Russia next year.Glasgow Times: Scotland's Scott Brown and Kieran Tierney at full time after the 1-0 win over Slovenia

Especially since all six lined up at the start of the vital win over Slovenia in March.

Tierney said: “You saw the last Scotland game when there was a core of Celtic players and it was a great result for us and that helps the team.

“The way Celtic have played this season, and the winning mentality we have, can only be a bonus for the national side.”

The defender will be aiming to collect his fourth Scotland cap against Gareth Southgate’s side, and he’s eager to play his part in the crunch clash at the National Stadium.

“I was injured the last time we played England and I was unlucky to miss that so hopefully if I do well in the next game and the training week I can get picked for the team,” he told the club website.

“It’s a major test. International football is the best players from each country and I’ve had a taste of it over a couple of games and I’m looking forward to this one.

“This is a big game for the country and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Tierney’s Celtic colleague Callum McGregor was tipped to make the squad after a fantastic run of form for the champions but he never made the final 27-man party.

“He’s very unlucky, Cal, as he’s been brilliant for us this season but I have no doubt he will be in many squads to come,” added Tierney.
