The news that Stuart Armstrong has committed his future to Celtic is great for everyone.

I think you can see that the situation had affected the lad, with his performances under par since the season got underway.

Having been in the situation where you know that an agent is trying to turn a player’s head, it can be a little bit frustrating. But ultimately it has to come down to the decision of the player and what he wants.

I would imagine that his representative was looking at the market south of the border and using that as a barometer of what kind of salary the player could command.

But when push has come to shove I suspect that Armstrong himself has made it clear that he wishes to remain at Celtic. There was a good offer on the table for him, he played the best football of his career in the last six months of the previous season and he has got himself into the international set-up.

Olivier Ntcham has looked as though he will also provide him with a fair bit of competition in the middle of the park, which is no bad thing.

Certainly, it seemed like a straightforward decision to make and it was interesting to note the speed with which it was concluded after months of protracted negotiations.

I do think now that you can expect to see the Armstrong of last season start to re-emerge. For most players, I think it is unsettling when there is uncertainty over the future and where they might be playing their football.

But Celtic are in an excellent place at the minute, Armstrong’s form of last season has been noted and rewarded and it is a case now of more of the same.
