Brendan Rodgers spent a relaxed night with Sir Alex Ferguson on Thursday as the duo were in attendance at Street Soccer Scotland's charity dinner.

And the Celtic manager was delighted to be entertained by the iconic Manchester United manager.

The duo stretch back a log way, with Rodgers first meeting Ferguson when he was a 14-year-old youth player at Old Trafford. Injury derailed Rodgers' professional playing career, but Ferguson has been a perennial figure throughout his time in football.

“It is gold dust, really," said Rodgers of the chance to chew the fat with Ferguson. "He is the big boss of everyone.

“He was incredible with what he formed, developed and cultivated all the way through and he also stayed modern all the way through. His enthusiasm, the drive, the hunger…you have to always keep the complacency away and that’s what he mentioned last night. He actually mentioned that complacency is like a disease. We speak about it here every day. The last time we played Kilmarnock we beat them 5-0, we played Astana here and we beat them 5-0, but we have to be hungry and we have to go and fight and whoever we give the baton to then they have got to run like hell and fight to get the results. To lead like he did at that level for so long is incredible. He is a very inspiring man and he has obviously got a real brain full of wisdom and knowledge of top level management.

“We were up against one another in his last season when I was at Liverpool. Also, his team were the first side to beat us at Swansea at home. I don’t think we had even conceded a goal until around November time. They beat us 1-0 but he was very complimentary of us at the time and I obviously had to get him a special bottle of red wine."
