RONNY DEILA insisted he won’t quit as Valarenga boss despite a horror run of five games without a win which has seen them plummet into another relegation battle.
The former Celtic boss predicted the Oslo club would be challenging for the Norwegian title this season after a huge overhaul of his squad following their narrow escape from relegation last term.
But a 2-1 loss to rivals Lillestrom saw them slump into fifth bottom place in the league –- a massive 17 points behind leaders Rosenborg – as they go into a break.
And the ex-Parkhead boss admits he’s disappointed at the way things are going at his new club, who are set to move into their new 18,000-capacity Valle Hovin Stadium soon.
He said: “I cannot say I am happy. The league table does not lie, that is clear.
“I’m hugely disappointed with the way it has gone so far this season, but the challenge now is to save the club.
“I still have faith in the players and the project. They are my players and this is my team so I know where the responsibilitty lies.
“We should be doing better - there’s no doubt about that, but we need to take a step back and look at where we are going.”
Deila won two titles in Scotland with Celtic and previously won the League and Cup with Stromsgodset. But he now faces a battle to save his latest job in Norway after a nightmare season.
He added: “I have been throught tough situations as a coach but obviously no one wants to be in this position.
“The fans are entitled to be disappointed and it is down to myself and the players to try to put things right and we will.”
