It is pleasing to see that Scotland are still in with a chance of pushing their way towards a play-off place for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

And I have to say that I don’t think you can downplay just how influential the presence of the Celtic players were on the national team.

Scott Brown, for me, was the best player on the park last Friday night in Lithuania and I think that Stuart Armstrong used the two games for Scotland to show what he has and the form of which he is capable.

He has just gone into that Scotland squad but he showed the best displays of his season so far. Now that is contract situation has been sorted he will feel a certain level of freedom and I am sure that will be shown in the manner on his performances.

Leigh Griffiths continued his decent form for Scotland with another goal and you have to say that he really is given people a lot of choices to make. I still think Moussa Dembele edges it if both players are fit but he has really brought his game on considerably over the last few months.

And the level we are talking about here is international football – it is not a level to be sniffed it. This is football at the top and the fact that Celtic have players in that team going out and making a difference at this level really augers well ahead of this Champions League campaign.

Interestingly, with the game tomorrow night at Hamilton Accies I do wonder if there will be one or two who are given a rest with Tuesday in mind.

Griffiths seemed to take a knock and you wouldn’t expect that Jozo Simunovic will be risked on the plastic turf.

If there is no Griffiths I just wonder whether that means we might get a glimpse of new signing Odsonne Edouard.

Certainly, the way things are just now with the competition for places at Celtic, you’d have to feel that you’d be doing well just to get a place on the bench.
