BRENDAN RODGERS last night heaped praise on James Forrest for mining a rich seam in goals.

The in-form winger was on the target twice at the weekend in the 4-0 win over Ross County.

And the Parkhead gaffer reckons the Scotland star has been at the top of his game since the start of the season.

Glasgow Times: James Forrest scores Celtic's third goal against Ross County on Saturday.

“James is a joy to work with,” said Rodgers. “He’s been absolutely brilliant for us, stood in for us over the course of the summer in the Champions League campaign where he played and got some really important goals. He’s been outstanding for me. His two goals at the weekend were very good goals.

“For the first one, he anticipates it well and with his other goal he’s come inside, there’s hardly any space at all, and he just bends it into the bottom corner.

“He’s a player I love working with. He’s got a lot of talent and because he comes in and plays the games without any fuss I don’t think he always get the credit that he deserves.

“He’s a great player for our squad and when he plays he contributes.”
Rodgers admitted Forrest was one of the first players to catch his eye when he took over the Parkhead hotseat.

He added: “He was one of the most impressive players when I first came in and in my first pre-season here he was arguably my best player. I’ve always known him to be absolutely outstanding.

“I think the key for James has been to have an individual training programme that allows him to train how you want him to play and he’s been able to take that consistency on the training field into the games.

“His job is very simple. When he has the ball he has to create and score goals and he’s done that consistently.”
