ANDERLECHT will have club legend Nicolas Frutos in charge for their Champions League showdown with Celtic.

But the Argentinian coach has been told to forget about any ambitions of becoming their manager on a permanent basis.

The Belgian champions sacked their Swiss boss Rene Weiler after a dismal start to the season – their worst for 19 years.

Former Rangers star Frank de Boer topped a fans’ poll to replace Weiler, but Anderlecht are keen on Gent boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck.

But they will put current coach Frutos – who was a perennial top scorer with the club and won three Belgian League titles with them – in charge for the weekend clash with Waasland-Beveren and the Champions League tie against the Hoops.

However, sporting director Herman van Holsbeeck has stressed 36-year-old Frutos has no chance of getting the job.

He explained: “Nicolas now has a few weeks to prove himself. But it’s not the intention to make him coach.”

Meanwhile, Celtic received a Euro boost with the news that Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be out until January after surgery on his broken left foot, ruling him both gamjes against the Hoops.

The 31-year-old World Cup winner sustained the same injury to the same foot in April and suffered a repeat in training on Monday.
