James Forrest is ready to finish the season as he started it as the Celtic winger targets the best campaign of his professional career.

Forrest netted the 13th goal of the season in the 5-0 win over Brechin on Saturday afternoon and has no plans on letting up.

The Scotland internationalist has overtaken his best return in terms of goals but is looking to maintain the same performance levels as Celtic return to league duty at Firhill tomorrow night.

“I felt as though last season was the best campaign of my career but I do feel like I have kicked on since then,” said Forrest. “I am pleased with the goals because that is something that I had spoken to the manager about at the start of the season.

“To be scoring so often is good but I don’t want to stop now. I want to kick on and keep working hard and hopefully I can see the rewards at the end of the season. I do think that I have improved but it comes down to working hard and trying to be as consistent as possible.

“It is nice to be able to see that on the pitch. I am delighted with the goals because it really was something that I wanted to add to my game. I don’t have any big targets in mind between now and the end of the season, I just want to make sure that I keep scoring and helping us win as many matches as possible.”

Forrest, meanwhile, anticipates a demanding night against Partick Thistle but believes that Celtic are refreshed and ready to go.

“I think we will all see the benefit of our time in Dubai,” he said. “We had played an awful lot of football between June and Christmas and I think you need a mental break as well as a physical one.

“Having got that, I think we will start to see us at our best.

“We have a busy couple of weeks now but over the piece it is not as demanding as what it was in the first-half of the season. You know that and expect it but it is good to be able to rest for a bit and I think it will help us as we look to play the kind of football that we want.

“Thistle are usually pretty well organised and they will look to make it as awkward as possible for us. You always know that you have to be ready to go and stick to your own game and if we do that then hopefully we can pick up the three points.”

Celtic were linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic over the weekend. The 29-year-old, however, appears to be high on the wanted list of Saint-Etienne and it is unlikely that the Parkhead side will pursue the Serbian player who has been in Germany for almost a decade.
