Celtic’s double treble is a phenomenal achievement, there is absolutely no question about that.

But I wonder just how long it will satisfy Brendan Rodgers’ appetite?

Like the great managers of the game he has that restless, ruthless streak about always wanting more. Sir Alex Ferguson had it and it is the hallmark of great players and great managers – it is never enough.

But just as these guys always want to keep pushing and going for more, I don’t think this Celtic support will be satisfied until they get ten-in-a-row.

I speak to supporters often, I interact with them on social media and I still have a huge affection for Celtic after my time there and I honestly think that they are not going to let anyone take their foot off the gas.

I remember people telling me about what it was like all the way through the 1990s when Rangers

were romping their way to nine-in-a-row and then some of the games like Henrik [Larsson] and Paul [Lambert] talked about just how nervous and tense that season was when they stopped the ten.

Of course, during that time too it wasn’t like Celtic were picking up other bits and bobs here and there. This was a support that was starved of any success and, boy, are the out to make up for that now.

They can remember what it was like to suffer through a period of Rangers being dominant. And now it’s payback. They want the ten.

I honestly think by getting to this stage, to seven, that it is within touching distance and I think it has become the number one priority in the minds of the support. It won’t be done again.

It will be a real legacy at the club that will be spoken of forever more and I also think it has a real pull for Rodgers too. No-one can say with any certainty what his next step will be and it would be a fool who’s predict what was going on at a football club three years’ down the line, but without doubt I think there is an allure about being the man to potentially deliver that.

Anyone who hits the ten will be immortal in the eyes of the support and right now you just can’t see who is going to stop them.

Not that Rodgers will see it that way. He will want to keep raising the bar and keep lifting the standard but there is no doubt that to win six out of six really takes a fabulous level of consistency.

Celtic fans, though, will still want the chequebook out this summer as Rodgers looks to tweak the squad.

There are always one or two who will move on, that’s just football, but there is a little bit of quality needed just to maybe make that little impact on Europe.

First, though, they need to get there which can be a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation. With four qualifying rounds to get through it is a long road to the group stages at a time of the season when a ball hasn’t been kicked.

I don’t doubt that there will be some players who will want to wait and see if Celtic can secure their place in Europe’s premier competition before deciding to make the move.

Edouard Odsonne is the first name that I would expect to be confirmed with the club clearly wanting to bring the young Frenchman on a permanent deal. That in itself would be a strong message to the support because he is not going to come cheap.

Getting the striker on a permanent deal from PSG would be a real signal that Celtic are out to do business, in the same way that getting Tom Rogic tied up on a five-year deal was.

It would be a good way to start the summer and get things moving but I don’t think that he will be the only one.

Everyone knows just how hard it is to do something in the Champions League given what you are up against but I still maintain that Celtic can’t be happy with just getting there.

If you get yourself into that company then you have got to go out and give it your best shot to make an impression. Some of that comes down to luck and just who you get in the group but it is a difficult experience if you are losing seven goals.

Brendan will expectations himself of how he wants to improve in that environment next season but for now I do think there is a point when you have to allow yourself to stop.

This is a side who have gone on to make a bit of history not just for Celtic but in Scottish football. You don’t get too long to enjoy a result at Celtic because the focus is always on the next game so they have a right now to just kick back for a few weeks and let it sink in what they have achieved.

There is no doubt that Brendan will have new targets in mind as soon as they walk back in the door for the first game of pre-season.
