CELTIC’S pre-season preparation are beginning to take shape after the club revealed Standard Liege are to come to Glasgow next month for a friendly encounter.

The Scottish champions will face the Belgian side at Parkhead on July 14 with a 3pm kick-off.

This match takes place after Celtic’s Champions League first round qualifier on June 10 or 11.

Brendan Rodgers’ seven-in-a-row side will first face Shamrock Rovers in a friendly in Dublin on July 7 after taking on Austrian side SK Vorwarts Steyr on June 27 during their eight-day training camp in Austria.

After a short break, it will be a hectic summer for the double-Treble winners who have to get through four qualifying rounds if they are to reach the group stage for a third successive season.

At least another two friendlies are being considered by Parkhead chiefs at the moment, although much depends on how Celtic fare in Europe.

Standard Liege, coached by Michel Preud’homme, the former Belgium internationalist, finished sixth in the regular Belgian top flight last season and then fought their way to second overall in their championship’s play-off format.

As a result they themselves earned a Champions League third-qualifying round slot and will also be in the midst of Euro preparations when they arrive at Parkhead next month.

The draw for the first and second qualifying rounds will both take place on June 19.
