Celtic have bounced back from heavy defeats in Europe in fine style before - and I have no doubt they will do so again in the Betfred Cup final against Motherwell on Sunday.

I am sure the Parkhead club’s players will be looking to make amends for a bad loss at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

Motherwell enjoyed a great result against Aberdeen at Pittodrie last weekend and will go into the Betfred Cup final on a high. Louis Moult, who scored two goals in the Ladbrokes Premiership match, will certainly fancy his chances of netting.

But Stephen Robinson’s side are much more than a one man team. I am anticipating a decent game at Hampden. It should be a great occasion.

Celtic, though, will be desperate to get back to winning ways after midweek and retain the first trophy of the season and I am confident they will do that.

I would imagine that one or two players who weren’t involved in the PSG match – most notably Stuart Armstrong and Scott Sinclair and possibly Patrick Roberts – will be restored to the starting line-up.

Armstrong and Sinclair and Roberts if he plays will be fresh and keen to make an impression.

I know they will have felt for their team mates as they crashed to such a bad result in midweek. But they won’t be as physically drained by it. That is no bad thing for their team.

I have a fair bit of affection for Motherwell because they gave me my first job in management. Bill Samuel was the best chairman I ever worked under. Maybe that was because I was only in charge at Fir Park for a short time!

But I obviously have far more affection for Celtic and am hoping they can lift the first trophy of the 2017/18 campaign and put the disappointment of Paris behind them.
