DUNDEE will go to Celtic Park with belief, confidence and a game-plan which will not involve sitting back and hoping for a point at best.

Dens Park winger Roarie Deacon believes the only way his side can hope to take anything from the champions-elect, and then from Rangers at Ibrox three days later, is to have a go. Being defensive is simply not going to work.

And he is probably right. It’s not as if Dundee have nothing to lose because they are third bottom of the Premiership but if they simply allowed Celtic to come at them then they would be asking for trouble which will come to them in spades.

Deacon said: “We will take confidence from the Hearts game on Sunday (a 1-1 draw) and go into the Celtic match believing in ourselves. If we play our game and impose ourselves on them, then we will give ourselves a chance.

“It will just be a case of going there focused on our own game then see what happens. I think a lot of teams go there, sit back and wait to get beaten. But the gaffer here doesn’t accept that, he wants us on the front foot attacking teams in every match we play.

“Is that the approach we will take on Wednesday? Most likely because that’s what we did at their place earlier in the season.

"We attacked Celtic that day, created a few chances to win the game and were unlucky to lose 1-0.

“If we can go there and play like that again then we will have a chance to pick up something.”

Dundee played well against Hearts and while no team is too good to do down, or at worst flirt with relegation, there are some fines player at Dens, Deacon is most certainly a talent, which makes their troubles confusing.

Deacon said:“We looked back to ourselves again on Sunday. We've worked hard on things and how we are going to improve.

"We have an abundance of talent in our team so it’s a shame we are not doing better than we are. If you look round our changing room man-to-man then we have a lot of very good individuals.

“It has just been that we have not come together as a team consistently enough. But the performance against Hearts showed what we are capable of.

“If we had more of a cutting edge then we could achieve more, but every team will say they need a 25-goal a season striker.”
