It is a shame to be writing and speaking about crowd problems again after a European night at Celtic Park, but thanks to one supporter who took leave of his senses, the issue is in the news once more.

I just hope that the actions of one individual don’t lead to a severe punishment for Celtic from UEFA, such as sections of the stadium being closed, because we all know that the famous atmosphere at Celtic Park is such a huge weapon on those massive Champions League nights.

It may be argued that the police or the stewarding could have been tighter to stop the fan from getting near the players, but it is very hard to stop one bevvied up guy from jumping the advertising boards when you are watching a raucous crowd of 60,000 or so.

The only relief is that he didn’t actually make contact with Kylian Mbappe, because that would have been far worse not only for the club, but obviously for the player himself.

It all brought back memories of the AC Milan goalie Dida being slapped by a fan at Celtic Park 10 years ago, although his reaction to the slight touch on his face was far more embarrassing than the offence itself.

The problem Celtic may have though is that UEFA may not see it that way, with a catalogue of fines behind the club in recent years due to the conduct of supporters at these games.

You may not be able to stop one supporter from getting trollied and jumping on the pitch, but you can certainly take steps to avoid what would be deemed to be offensive banners or chants, or using pyrotechnics, charges that have been brought against Celtic in the past.

I just hope that this latest indiscretion isn’t the straw that breaks the camel’s back, because Celtic are up against it enough in the Champions League without losing that fearsome Celtic Park atmosphere.
