Celtic goalkeeper Dorus de Vries has agreed an extension to his current contract with the Parkhead club which will see him remain with Brendan Rodgers' side until 2019.

The goalkeeper is the latest Celtic player to commit his future to the club with Kieran Tierney recently signing a six-year deal. Callum McGregor, too, has recently signed a new contract with Rodgers' side.

De Vries has largely been deployed as a back-up keeper to Craig Gordon but he is content to stay and push the Scotland internationalist for the first-team jersey.

“As a player you want to be at the best clubs and Celtic is certainly up there," he told the club's official website. "It’s a great squad to play in, great technical staff who are enjoyable to work with as well, and, for me, everything is here to keep on going and make sure that we keep bringing trophies to this club.

“Stevie Woods is a great goalkeeping coach. I worked with him in the past and it’s a great pleasure to be working with him again.

“Craig Gordon, Conor Hazard, Ross Doohan, and there are a couple of youngsters as well, are all great. We all just want to keep going strong, working really hard, training well, ensuring everyone stays focused and fit, and make sure that the goalkeepers’ union stays strong.

“When called upon, you just need to be ready and that’s what we’re all aiming for. We all keep each other on our toes to get the best out of each other in training every day.”

De Vries worked with Rodgers at Swansea and has enjoyed the chance to hook up with him for a second spell.

“It was a joy to work with the gaffer at Swansea City before and ever since I joined Celtic, it’s been brilliant,” he said.

“It’s great to be involved in a club like Celtic, especially with the success that we had last season as well, and we’re trying to build on that this yea. It’s great to be part of that and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”
