GERMAN trainer Peter Schiergen said Danedream, who caused a major surprise when running off with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe last year, is ready to defend her title in Paris next month.

The filly was not fully wound up the other day when she scooted home to land the Group 1 Grosser Preis Von Baden in Germany, her second victory in the race.

This followed Danedream's narrow defeat of Nathaniel in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Although her margin of victory at Baden-Baden was just half a length, Schiergen was pleased with her efforts and how she has taken those exertions.

He said: "She is perfect after the race and we were happy with her performance.

"There was not much pace in the race, but she did it OK and Andrasch (Starke, jockey) did not not have to be too hard with the whip.

"She will go to Longchamp next and we look forward to that.

"We will wait until after the Arc before we make any other plans for her."

Danedream is second favourite at 6-1 for next month's Arc, the biggest Flat race in Europe, with St Leger and Triple Crown aspirant Camelot available at 3-1.

Elsewhere, July Cup winner Mayson will miss the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock tomorrow because of a virus.

Trainer Richard Fahey said: "He just didn't scope right so we can't take a chance. It's disappointing for everyone, but I suppose that's how it goes sometimes."

Fahey now has to rely on outsider Majestic Myles in the Merseyside feature. "He's in good form, but it's a step up," said the trainer.
