HE was famous for giving players a right rollicking ...but last night John Lambie was left speechless after being on the receiving end of a double haymaker from jokers Chic Charnley and Ally McCoist.

The Partick Thistle legend - and legendary pigeon fancier - was stunned as more than 3700 fans turned out in sub-sero temperatures for his testimonial at Firhill.

They watched a host of Thistle and Rangers stars past and present, including Jim Duffy and Rangers Andy Goram, Arthur Numan and Richard Gough, turn on the style - and turn back the clock.

The first game saw a Partick XI take on Gers youngsters for an hour before making way for a selection of legends from both clubs for the final half hour.

And it was Gordon Durie who broke the deadlock when he slotted coolly past Thistle goalkeeper Andy Murdoch, but Ray Montgomerie snatched an equaliser for Thistle in the dying seconds.

The night, though, belonged to Lambie, who enjoyed four spells at Firhill. And he bowed out in style ... to the biggest cheer of the night.
