SPORTSWIDE: Rome’s where the hurt is for Andy

ANDY MURRAY failed once more to put down a marker ahead of the French Open, losing 2-6, 6-7 (5-7) to Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round of the Rome Masters.

Murray received treatment on an apparent groin problem in the first set and struggled with his mobility throughout, but will nevertheless rue the chance to get more practice on clay before Roland Garros.

It was a good opportunity for the British No.1 to make the latter stages of the tournament after Rafael Nadal, his likely third round opponent, suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Juan Carlos Ferrero earlier in the day - just his second loss on clay in his last 105 matches on the surface.

Afterwards, Murray insisted that injury had played no part in his defeat.

"I didn't feel that great first set, my legs were a bit heavy, but after that it was fine," he said. "I didn't feel that great, that's all.

"I saw the physio and the doctor and just got some hot cream. The doctor gave me a vitamin tablet or something - I don't know exactly what it was - and, yeah, I felt fine."

RUGBY: Scotland have named uncapped trio Ben Cairns, Thom Evans and Moray Low in their 30-man squad for their summer tour to Argentina, where they will play two Test matches against the Pumas.

Head coach Frank Hadden announced 25 names in his party, with the remaining two backs and three forwards still to be determined.

But certain of their places barring injury are 22-year-old Edinburgh centre Cairns, Glasgow Warriors wing Evans and his club-mate Low, a prop forward, who are both 23.

There is also a recall for Warriors hooker Dougie Hall after a long injury absence.

Hadden revealed Cairns, Evans and Low had been rewarded for their club form and displays earlier in the season for Scotland A.
