McGhee praise for Gers
McGhee praise for Gers

MARK McGHEE believes Rangers will win the SPL title if they keep producing the kind of game that killed off Motherwell.

McGhee said: "Rangers, by winning last night, maintain their advantage in terms of points they can achieve. It was a big result for them. If they can take that into their remaining games, they will win."

The Motherwell manager made five changes from the 2-1 defeat to Celtic. But he insisted Well's hopes of finishing third and claiming a Uefa Cup slot for next season had not been dented.

He said: "It wasn't in the least bit damaging. If we win on Saturday against Aberdeen, I think we've got the European place, so that's what we have been focusing on.

"I'd expect Celtic and Rangers to take care of Hibs and Dundee United and that would see us over the line."

The Old Firm both claimed their winning goals against Motherwell from set-pieces, which has been Well's problem this season. Defender Mark Reynolds admitted: "It's very frustrating. We're doing well in training. It just seems in matches the other team finds the spare man.

"We've played some good football so to come away with no points is disappointing. But if we play the same kind of football against Aberdeen on Saturday, the points will come."
