NAYLOR: Title is in our destiny

by Ronnie Cully

CELTIC believe it is their destiny to complete an amazing comeback this season and make it a hat-trick of SPL titles.

Gordon Strachan's re-energised squad are convinced they can take the championship right down to the final day - and then emerge triumphant.

The normally laid-back Lee Naylor admits he is caught up in the feel-good frenzy which is enveloping the Celtic squad as they count down to the first of their final two games, against Hibs at Parkhead on Sunday.

And the defender - who scored his only goal for the champions when they last played the Easter Road club back in March - is confident that, after five straight wins, the momentum is now there for Celtic to complete an amazing comeback.

Naylor said: "It's good that it's going right down to the wire. Having the belief we are going to do it is going through the team like a rash. All of us believe. The boys are all ready to go right to the wire. We can't think about anything else, only concentrate on our own games.

"We must win our last two games then see where it takes us.

"Celtic have always had that never-say-die attitude. And that's what we have done this season. It was all lost at one stage, but we got it back."

If Celtic can pull it off to make it three titles in a row for the first time since the era of Jock Stein, they will write their own little piece of history.

And Naylor is convinced they are fated to achieve what only a few weeks ago looked like mission impossible, though a some tense nights lie ahead as they wait for Rangers to negotiate their games in hand.

He said: "All the boys believe we can do it. Absolutely. I know we need a favour, but the confidence is there."

The experienced left back knows that, with a Uefa Cup place in the sights of both their final two opponents - Hibs on Sunday then Dundee United a week on Thursday - they face two highly-competitive games.

But he also recognises it would be foolish to look any further than this weekend as Mixu Paatelainen's side have already proved this season how dangerous they can be by taking four points from their three games against Naylor and Co.

They held Celtic 1-1 on their last visit in December. But, backed by a full house in their final home game, Naylor can't wait for the action to begin.

He said: "Hibs always give us a tough game, and a footballing game at that, So we're looking forwards to it and getting the ball down and having a few passes.

"We are the reigning champions, and everyone wants to beat the champions. That will not change. They will be out to win, and we obviously want to win it, too, so it's going to be a good spectacle.

"We don't want them to be hanging back and having 10 men behind the ball. We want them coming at us and making it interesting.

"They play good football and like to pass the ball. But we will come out on top."
