Dunblane star Andy Murray is looking for his first victory over Frenchman Gilles Simon

ANDY MURRAY is confident he can claim his first win over Gilles Simon when the pair meet in the second round of the Hamburg Masters tomorrow.

The British No.1 was a comfortable 6-4, 6-1 victor against Dmitry Tursunov in the first round yesterday - his fourth win on clay this season.

Murray's only completed match on the surface last year - before he injured his wrist in Hamburg - was a three-set defeat to Simon in Rome.

The 23-year-old Frenchman is likely to provide more of a test than Tursunov, who is much more at home on faster surfaces, but Murray is confident he can match his performance in Monte Carlo last month by making it into the third round.

"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "The weather's been beautiful here so hopefully that'll stay the same. I'm feeling confident I can win that one."

RUGBY: One of Glasgow's longest serving players, back-row Donnie Macfadyen, announced his retirement.

Macfadyen, who is still only 28-years-old, now has his sights set on returning to University where he will study Sports Science focusing on strength and conditioning.

During his studies at Napier University, Donnie will work with Edinburgh Rugby Club to put his experience into practice.

Donnie, who won 11 caps for Scotland, said: "I take with me some fantastic memories of playing for Glasgow. Injuries have played such a big part in my career, but all the good times by far outweigh the bad."

GOLF: Phil Mickelson's manager, Steve Loy said the American golfer might join the European Tour at some point.

"Phil is not considering it at this time, but it is an option in the future, given the global nature of professional golf," Loy said today.

CYCLING: Scot David Millar was involved in a serious crash in the third stage of the Giro D'Italia but remounted to finish in 40th place.
