WALTER SMITH wants one final push from his Rangers shock troops as they bid to win the Uefa Cup here tomorrow.
And the Ibrox gaffer believes that's exactly what he'll get from a team that has given him everything this season.
Smith was today finalising his team and tactics ahead of the European showdown with Zenit St Petersburg in the City of Manchester Stadium. He has watched his side defy the odds against the likes of Werder Bremen, Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina to reach the club's first European Final in 36 years.
And Smith told me: "One thing I can always be assured of with this bunch is 110% effort. They have given every-thing and worked so hard to get here. It will require one last push to overcome Zenit and win this Cup, but I know they are capable of that.
"We may lack some things, but determination and desire are not in doubt. I sense they want this. It's a major match and occasion for the club, and the boys want to win."
Rangers will train at the stadium today and, while Smith will not deviate from his favoured 4-1-4-1, he is seriously considering on-form Nacho Novo for a start to offer more of an attacking threat from the wide areas in support of Jean-Claude Darcheville in attack.
Before finalising his line-up, he will consult his backroom team, and super spies Ian Durrant and Ewan Chester.
"It's been a big effort from everyone to reach the Final. The players, of course, have performed tremendously well.
"But an important
factor has been gathering as much info on our opponents as possible."
Smith added: "We have been looking forward to this since we reached the final but, because of domestic commitments, we haven't had much time to prepare, but there is nothing we can do about it. We trained at
Murray Park before flying down and we've enjoyed the build-up."
