CHARLIE ADAM is hopeful he could get the nod for a Uefa Cup Final start - just weeks after fearing his season was over.

The midfielder damaged his knee at the end of March and was forced to miss a string of key games.

As he sweated on the outcome of scans, Adam had to sit in the stand as Rangers got past the likes of Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina in the month of April to set up tonight's Uefa Cup Final against Zenit St Petersburg.

He revealed: "It turned out the injury wasn't as bad as first feared, so I have been able to come back and I was delighted to get on against Motherwell last week.

"It was a really tough time picking up that injury at a crucial stage of the season.

"It looked as though the season may be over for me, but now it's all changed and hopefully I can play my part in the five massive games we have left.

"When I got the nod that I could be back, you then set a target, and that was to be involved in these games that will determine whether or not we can win more silverware, but obviously we have a massive squad and everyone wants to play."

Adam knows Rangers stand on the brink of emulating something that has happened only once in the history of the club.

But the Russians are also in town intent on winning their first European trophy.

"It's been a great season for us so far to have one trophy in the bag, and to be sitting here with five games that will decide another three," Adam continued.

"We need to give it one last push to try and get them into the cabinet. It's in our own hands, that's the way you want it.

"We know it will be tough, of course there is pressure, but that's what you have to handle at Rangers."
