Edu’s ready to seize chance

by Bert Mitchell

MAURICE EDU is hoping that November will provide him with the chance to consolidate a starting place in the Rangers midfield.

The 22-year-old made only his second start of the season in Tuesday night's Co-operative Insurance Cup defeat of Hamilton.

But with tomorrow's visit of Inverness kicking of a hectic November in which Gers will be in action on seven SPL occasions Ibrox gaffer Walter Smith will be forced to rotate his squad.

And Edu is hoping to seize any opportunity coming his way.

He said: "We have seven games rolling up in November starting with Inverness at Ibrox tomorrow and for us at Rangers the motivation has to be to go out there and win each game.

"We will take each one on its own merits and try and pick up as many points as possible.

"Hopefully that also means the manager will look to utilise his full squad and with a bit of luck that will provide an opportunity for me.

"I thought I put in a pretty good showing against Hamilton on Tuesday. There are still parts of my game I can improve upon but I did what I could to help the team and we got the result we were after and now we have a semi-final to look forward to."

Edu added: "But I feel like every chance I get to play is a chance for me to learn and the more games that come my way the more I will learn."

Dundee United are next up at Ibrox on Tuesday before Rangers hit the road with away fixtures at Kilmarnock and Motherwell and then return to Govan to grapple with St Mirren and Aberdeen before ending November at Tynecastle against Hearts.

And as he assessed the demands of that gruelling seven-game sequence of fixtures, Edu underlined his belief that Rangers are ready for the challenge.

The USA star said: "We have a big squad at Rangers with so many guys coming back from injury and the talent levels are deep.

"Every day in training is a battle for a position on the field and that is great because when you have the number of fixtures coming up that we do, the whole squad will probably have to be used. I don't think we will be found wanting."
