GEORGE BURLEY says he feels under no pressure to try and mend bridges with rebel striker Kris Boyd - despite the Rangers star's scoring streak.
The Scotland manager today named his first squad since Boyd's controversial decision to withdraw his servives whilst he was manager, choosing a large pool of 26 players for next week's glamour friendly against Argentina at Hampden.
Boyd has blasted seven goals in five matches since his decision to quit the national set-up, and Burley watched him and Kenny Miller continue to blossom as a partnership in Rangers' Sunday romp at Kilmarnock.
But when asked if he was under pressure to go back to the Boyd situation, Burley fired: "Basically, it's all about commitment. There is no pressure on our part at all. Everyone here wants to play for Scotland and that is all I want."
One Rangers player back in the squad to face Diego Maradona and his stars is Barry Ferguson. The Scotland skipper has yet to feature under Burley but is now back after ankle surgery, although his fitness will be monitored ahead of next week's game.
Burley would also have selected Kevin Thomson, who's season has been ended by a horror knee injury, and he revealed an arrange-ment was in place with veteran stopper David Weir to leave him out of friendly games.
"Barry is back, even though he is not 100% match fit. He played for 35 minutes against Kilmarnock, but there are another two Rangers games before the Argentina match so we'll look at him carefully," Burley said.
"Kevin is a player who was very much in my thoughts. He was unfortunate in that he had to withdraw from the last couple of squads with injuries.
"I was at the game on Sunday and I could see he was in a lot of pain. It looked like a nasty one, but fingers crossed that he will make a full recovery.
"As for big Davie, he appreciates we have Gary Caldwell and Stephen McManus. He will be in the squads next year for the qualifiers - at this stage in his career it's about keeping him fresh."
Burley is also delighted to have Alan Hutton back and Ross McCormack available after a hamstring injury scare.
"I spoke to Harry Redknapp yesterday and he said Alan is fully fit," Burley added. "I was watching Ross on TV when he got injured and I feared the worst, but he is back in full training now. He is a young player in terrific form."
