PETERSHILL striker Stephen McGladrigan will be looking to generate some momentum when West Region kingpins Irvine Meadow visit Springburn this Saturday.

Peasy are aiming to win back-to-back league games for the first time this season.

Factor in the lingering sting of them narrowly losing the Super Premier crown to Medda last season and there is plenty of spice about this game at New Petershill Park.

And nobody is likely to run for the cause than 27-year old Glad who is revelling in his energy-sapping role in the 4-5-1 system favoured by Peasy co-managers Scott Smith and Willie Patterson.

But nobody should mark him down as merely a hard-working frontman because Glad is one of the most clinical goalscorers around.

And he proved his qualities by bagging two goals in Petershill's 3-0 weekend defeat of Pollok.

He said: "That was my first league start of the season so it was pleasing to get off the mark with a couple of goals, though I have to hand enormous credit to Paul Woods and Michael Fulton for laying the chances on.

"I've been plagued with ankle ligament damage since the start of this season so it was good to get through 90 minutes.

"Hopefully I can now stay injury free and enjoy a decent run in the team. Holding down a regular place is going to be a whole lot tougher with the gaffers having brought in Sean McKenna and Joe Barclay.

"However, I'll do my best to keep banging in the goals."

Peasy co-boss Smith – a centre-forward himself in his early playing days, said: "Glad doesn't always get the credit he deserves, but he brings a lot to the team. He could have scored four against Pollok.

Smith went on: "Glad shouldered too much of the scoring responsibility last season and the wear and tear from leading the line in almost every game eventually told on him during our title run-in.

"Bringing in Sean and Joe was our way of sharing the burden, but so far we've not had a game when all three strikers have been available at the same time.

"There are early signs that the newcomers look the part and if they can make the same massive contribution as Glad has in his time here then Petershill are in for good times."

Still on the striking front, Cumnock sold experienced frontman George Wallace to Hurlford United last week only for bustling forward Scott Anson to break a bone in a foot during the 3-2 weekend victory over Beith. He is facing up to six weeks out.

Other transfer moves saw Blantyre Vics snap up a fifth St Roch's player after midfielder Terry Hewitt opted to be reunited with former gaffer David Greig at Castle Park, while another Provanmill Park departure has seen Andy Sinclair move to Benburb.
