He said: “I’m not a knee-jerk reaction person.”

Celtic have today been linked with a loan move for Arsenal’s out-of-favour Swiss central defender Philippe Senderos.

They have also invited Australian midfielder Adriano Pellegrino over for a trial next week, and currently have Stabaek’s teenage defender Thomas Rogne here trying to win a contract.

Mowbray’s main focus, however, is on landing another striker from the list he has had since the window opened.

But he keeps coming up against brick walls in that pursuit with attempts to land Tours’ Olivier Giroud and Rapid Vienna’s Nikica Jelavik having come unstuck.

Mowbray said: “If I thought my team was stuttering, not very fluent and we were not sure where we were going, I would have more concern.

“But I don’t see that. I see a team that’s going to come together and is hopefully moving in the right direction.

“I understand it’s very difficult to say that, of course, when you see the result because, in your world and a lot of the supporters’ worlds, it’s only about the result.

“But I’ve got to try to build a team that could give us success over the long period, and that’s what we are trying to do now.”

With Ki Sung Yueng making an impressive debut at the weekend and Jos Hooiveld racing towards match fitness, Mowbray believes he is at least half way towards getting the squad where he wants it.

Asked how many more players he needs in this window, he said: “Only another one or two, I’d suggest.”

Meanwhile, Lee Naylor could soon be on his way to Roy Keane’s Ipswich. Full-back Naylor, 29, is out of contract in June.
