Edu is available for selection again after battling back to full fitness from the knock he picked up in the 3-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice on the final day of last season.

But the midfielder knows he is not guaranteed a spot in Walter Smith’s side with Steven Davis, Kevin Thomson, Lee McCulloch and Pedro Mendes all in the squad.

The United States international said: “I am feeling pretty good.

“It’s been a crazy road back from my injury and it’s never easy to be out for so long and go back into the team.

“As soon as you get the green light to play you want to hit the ground running and return to the form you had before you were injured.

“That is always difficult, but the gaffer and the coaches have been great with me.

“I was beating myself up a bit when I got back in the team as I wanted to impress straight away, but that is not always possible.

“I am going to have to be patient and the more games I play the more confident and sharper I will feel.

“Any opportunity I get to play I will go out and give 110 per cent even if it is bounce matches at Murray Park.

“Things start to come back to you naturally, but hopefully I am not far away from being back to my best.

“It is has taken me a long time to come back from my injury, but that is in the past now and I feel fit and strong again.”

Speaking in the Rangers News as he looked ahead to the SPL game with St Mirren tonight, he added: “Like every player coming back from an injury it can take time and you need game time as well. But when you look at the centre of midfield we have got a lot of players at Rangers that can fit in there and the manager has options.

“Steven, Thommo and Lee are all excellent players and we have Pedro Mendes almost back to full fitness as well and we all know about the quality he has.

“So when the team is playing well and getting results it is difficult if you have been out and trying to get back into the gaffer’s plans.

“I have to bide my time like everyone else and when my chance comes along I know I have to take it.”
