Celtic strike legend Frank McGarvey believes that Danish hitman Morten Rasmussen is exactly what the doctor order to help inject some life into the ailing Hoops attack.
The former Celtic Liverpool and St Mirren striker also believes that Rasmussen will form a menacing strike pairing with Robbie Keane.
McGarvey was mightily impressed by the Dane’s goalscoring contribution in Celtic’s 4-2 Scottish Cup victory over Dunfermline.
He said: “Rasmussen is exactly what Celtic need right now, The goals he’s scored so far are natural striker’s goals.
“He’s shown a knack for getting in between defenders and making a real nuisance of himself in the penalty box, and he seems to be quick and clever with it.
“He comes alive in the six-yard box, which is where Celtic need their strikers to be playing. Guys like Fortune and Samaras spend too much time out on the wings when they should be sniffing about in the box.
“Too many times this season, Celtic have dominated matches but ended up not winning.”
McGarvey has no doubt that Hoops gaffer Tony Mowbray must partner the Dane with Keane at the apex of his formation.
He said: “I think Morten and Keane will do brilliantly together. I’d say they are the two best strikers in Scotland.
“It looks like they’ll link up well together, with the runs Keane makes and the way Rasmussen lurks in the box. I’m excited about seeing more of Rasmussen and Keane together.”
