Lee McCulloch has moved a step closer to a possible return to the international scene after revealing he will have discussions with new Scotland manager Craig Levein.
McCulloch announced his retirement two years ago, but could make himself available again under Levein.
His Rangers team-mates Allan McGregor and Kris Boyd will be brought back into the fold for the home friendly against the Euro championship rivals the Czech Republic on March 3, although a decision on Barry Ferguson’s possible return will be delayed until August.
But McCulloch said: “I think I need to have a word with the gaffer (Walter Smith) and Craig Levein.
“The middle of the park is the strongest part of Scotland’s team so there are six or seven players that are possibly younger than me that would come into the frame.
“So I don’t want to say that I would come back or not. We will just have to wait and see what happens.”
Meantime, Madjid Bougherra feels he will still need a couple of games to get back into his stride despite being Rangers best player in the 0-0 draw with St Mirren at the weekend in the Active Nations Scottish Cup.
It was the Algerian’s first game for his club since December 30 after a stint away at the African Cup of Nations in Angola.
Bougherra said: “We kept a clean sheet so I was happy with that, but I found the match a bit difficult.
“I think I will need a couple of games to get back into the top level.
“It was great to be back in the Rangers team but obviously disappointing that we didn’t win the game.”
