Motherwell new recruit Alan Gow has set his sights on rediscovering the red-hot form which helped him clinch a dream move to Rangers.
Gow put pen to paper on a six-month contract with the Steelmen to complete manager Craig Brown’s summer signing spree.
The 27-year-old is now determined to force his way into the Well first team and enjoy a prolonged run of competitive games back in Scotland.
For the versatile player has bounced from club to club with varying degrees of success since his transfer to the Gers turned sour two years ago.
He has spent loan spells at Blackpool, Hibs and Norwich, and parted company with Plymouth after a new manager deemed him surplus to requirements.
However, the former Airdrie and Falkirk player feels Motherwell is the perfect club for him to help get his career firmly back on track.
He said: “I spoke to a few clubs over the summer, but the chance to work with Craig Brown and Archie Knox came up and I met them last week and then made the decision.
“I need to start playing football. This suits me as it is close to home for me. I want to get back playing games under a good manager.
“I spoke to a few clubs – including some in Scotland – over the summer, but I felt this one suited me best. I need to start to perform at the level I was at before.
“I will have to work hard to get into the side here and stay there. I have done a bit of pre-season at Plymouth and shouldn’t be too far behind.
“I accept that a lot will be expected of me by the fans here, but I wouldn’t say I am under any pressure. I just want to come here to play games and enjoy my football again.”
Gow admitted the chance to work with the vastly experienced management duo of Brown and Knox was a major factor in his decision to join Motherwell.
“I spoke to former team- mates and former coaches I have worked with about Craig Brown and Archie Knox and they were all extremely positive,” he revealed.
“I can played up front or in midfield. I will play wherever I am picked by the manager. Basically, I just want to get a game.”
Meanwhile, Gow has dismissed claims by a Swindon Town director that his transfer to the League One club fell through due to his excessive wage demands.
Board member Jeremy Wray earlier this week branded Gow a “money grabber” and alleged he had not honoured an agree- ment to join Swindon.
However, Gow rapped: “I didn’t agree to join anybody. Obviously, Swindon have different thoughts. Maybe the chairman down there and the agent agreed, but I didn’t have any agreement whatsoever.
“I told them I was going down to look at the place and meet the manager and then we could talk about a contract. It definitely wasn’t set in stone before I went.
“I certainly didn’t agree terms. I didn’t even meet the guy when I was down there. He can say what he wants, I’ll still sleep at night. If I was being greedy I wouldn’t have come back to Scotland.”
