Rangers still face an anxious two-week wait amid interest in striker Kenny Miller from the Middle East.

The Scotland internationalist has rejected a new contract offer at the Ibrox club as he enters the final year of his present deal.

That has alerted several clubs to his potential availability and although no bids were forthcoming from English outfits prior to the closure of the transfer window, it appears as though there is interest from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

The transfer window in the Gulf states doesn’t shut until September 15 and it has been reported soccer sheikhs are keen to prize the striker away from Ibrox.

SportTimes understands manager Walter Smith wouldn’t be willing to cash-in on the player with no chance to bring in a replacement.

Miller has started the new season with a bang by scoring on the opening day against Kilmarnock, netting a hat-trick against Hibs the following weekend before scoring the winner on Saturday against St Johnstone.

After hitting 21 goals last term, the frontman is desperate to improve on that tally this season if he spends the entire campaign at the SPL champions.

A more likely scenario would be that he would be sold early in the January transfer window if an acceptable bid is tabled, which would then allow Smith to try and sign a replacement for the remaining part of the season and beyond.

Meanwhile, the final man to move to Ibrox during the transfer window has admitted the move came completely out of the blue on transfer deadline day.

Ricky Foster has joined on loan from Aberdeen for the rest of the season with Andrius Velicka heading in the opposite direction and he can’t wait to get started.

The 25-year-old said: “It has all happened very quickly.

“I was surprised the way things have gone and I’m very excited by it.

“The Champions League is the biggest stage of all and to have a chance of playing there is terrific. You look at the teams in the group and it’s going to be brilliant playing Man U, Valencia and Bursaspor.

“I have never been to a Champions League match at Ibrox, but having watched on TV you can see that the atmosphere is incredible. So it’s something that I would love to be involved in.”

Velicka’s loan deal will take him to the end of a largely unproductive three-year contract with Rangers.
