Steven Davis today urged Kyle Lafferty to salvage his Rangers career before he blows his dream move to the Ibrox club.

The Northern Ireland midfielder wants his countryman “to learn from past actions” and prove he has what it takes to cut it at the SPL champions.

Ibrox manager Walter Smith is exasperated by the 22-year-old’s conduct after he was sent off in his side’s recent 3-0 victory over Hibs at Easter Road.

It is the latest in a long list of blunders by Lafferty – he was heavily criticised for feigning injury to get Charlie Mulgrew sent off in a match with Aberdeen – and it’s understood Rangers could be prepared to cut their loses and cash in on the £3.75m signing by off-loading him back to England in January.

Blackpool failed in an attempt to land him on a loan deal at the end of the transfer window, but could come back in with a bid when the window re-opens.

Davis, however, is hoping Lafferty can learn from his mistakes and turn things around.

Davis said: “Kyle knows what he has to work on. He also knows there comes a time when you have to learn from past actions. Hopefully those things are behind him now and he can move on.

“Kyle has had an up-and-down time at Rangers with various things, but if he can settle down and focus he can be the player we all know he can.”

As revealed in SportTimes yesterday, Rangers won’t allow Kenny Miller to move to the Middle East after former Asian champions Al Ain – the richest club in the United Arab Emirates – identified him as a signing target before the end of their transfer deadline on September 15.

The player has no new contract talks scheduled at Rangers. He said: “There is nothing fixed up in terms of meetings. I’m sure the club appreciate my mind is on Scotland duty.”

And Madjid Bougherra has revealed he was thrilled not to have been sold during the transfer window. He said: “It is now certain I won’t be leaving the club this year. I’m happy at Ibrox.”
