RYAN Grant today predicted Glasgow Warriors can be even more difficult to beat at Scotstoun than they were at Firhill.

Gregor Townsend's team will try to rack up their first home victory of the season when they take on Connacht in the RaboDirect PRO 12 tonight.

Having beaten defending champions Ospreys 10-28 at the Liberty Stadium in Wales last week, hopes are high of a second win on the trot.

Despite losing their opening game to the Scarlets 13-18 a fortnight ago, Scotland prop Grant believes the stadium is perfect for the Warriors.

He said: "Firhill was a real fortress for us and we are very keen to make Scotstoun the same and start a legacy. We didn't do it in our game against the Scarlets.

"It is an amazing facility. Crucially, the pitch is immaculate because we are the only ones who use it. That was not the case at Firhill as Partick Thistle also played there.

"We always look to play good expansive rugby and sometimes at Firhill we couldn't do that because of the state of the playing surface.

"The pitch at Scotstoun is well looked after and hopefully that should enable us to play some entertaining rugby as well as winning rugby."

Grant added: "Last week's win was a long time coming. But it was a good result for us. Beating the champions on their own pitch showed what our intentions are for the season. It sent out a message.

"We owe the Glasgow crowd a win. We have only beaten Connacht once in our last four meetings with them and it will be difficult.

"However, our first and only priority is to get another win under our belts."

Meanwhile, Grant has welcomed the arrival of a trio of new signings to injury-hit Glasgow – especially loosehead rival Ofa Fainga'anuku.

Townsend has a host of big-name players out injured including Chris Cusiter (shoulder), Rob Harley (knee), Stuart Hogg (ankle), Ed Kalman (back), Rory Lamont (leg), Pat MacArthur (foot), Graeme Morrison (knee) and Jon Welsh (shoulder).

Despite this, Grant admitted: "We aren't at panic stations just yet. One of the reasons Glasgow did so well last season was because of the strength in depth we had.

"Henry Pyrgos played a lot of rugby last season and proved what a great player he is. I am sure he will do a good job again while Chris Cusiter is out.

"Personally, I'm pleased we've got another loosehead in, one with good inter-national experience too. It'll keep me on my toes and give us good cover.

"It's good to have somebody else to compete with for a place. I'm sure Ofa will enhance the squad."
