RANGERS are lining up a glamour pre-season friendly with Greek giants Olympiakos ahead of the Irn-Bru Third Division campaign.

Chief executive Charles Green today flew out to Athens in a bid to strike a deal that will bring the Greece Superleague champions to Glasgow.

Boss Ally McCoist has seen his summer plans thrown into chaos in recent weeks as matches have been cancelled and Green is keen to help.

"We are going to try and get a pre-season friendly arranged with Olympiakos," he said.

"I have spoken to their chief executive over the last few days and what we are trying to do is get a couple of very high-profile clubs to come to Ibrox. It is a fantastic stadium.

"We are now in the Third Division of course, but what we want to do is put on a feast for the fans who, over the last few weeks, have had a very, very, traumatic time.

"We want the fans to get behind it, enjoy this game and let Ally have a friendly before he starts his league season."

A closed-doors game against Albion Rovers is scheduled for the weekend at Murray Park which is likely to be Gers' first run-out at a time when other clubs are well into their pre-season preparations.
