Glenn Loovens today backed Celtic’s forwards to hit the goal trail and threaten Rangers’ 10-point lead at the top of the table.
Ibrox striker Kenny Miller claimed that Rangers had little to worry about as Kris Boyd prepares for a return to action after a hernia operation, but Loovens has laughed off the suggestion from the Scotland forward that Walter Smith has the better striking options available to him.
“I think if you see our previous games and see how many chances we created, then I don’t really agree with that,” he said.
“We have some great strikers and there will be one game where everything clicks together and, if we keep creating the same number of chances, one day every one of them will go in.
“Morten Rasmussen is a different type of player to any other that we’ve got here. He has a nose for goal and is always in the penalty box where you need to be to score goals.
“He got a scrappy goal the other day and he has a feeling for that which is a quality in itself. I think we have missed that a bit.”
Meanwhile, Loovens has revealed that he handed the captain’s armband to Scott Brown last Tuesday night at Rugby Park since he felt it was the right thing to do as the announcement had been made before the game that the midfielder was the captain until the end of the season.
“It felt natural to hand it over to the captain,” he said. “I think he will be a good captain for us because he is 200% committed in every game and he is always trying to drive the team forward.”
