Morton looked to be cruising against Cowdenbeath on Saturday afternoon, only to then be spooked by a late comeback from the hosts.
Peter Weatherson netted a brace while goals from Archie Campbell and David O'Brien added to the scoreline. John Armstrong, Mark Ramsay and Jamie Stevenson all struck back for the hosts to ensure a nervous finale, but Morton managed to hang on and head back to Greenock with all three points.
"We were cruising at 4-1 so we're disappointed to concede those late goals, but we deserved to win," said Morton manager Allan Moore.
"The goals took the shine off it a bit but credit to Cowdenbeath. They could have chucked it but they fought back.
"We got the three points and that's the main thing."
