BILLY REID says he will not rush into the transfer market in a bid to add to his Hamilton squad.

The Accies boss has already agreed deals with youngster Louis Longridge and former Morton keeper Kevin Cuthbert ahead of the new Irn-Bru First Division season.

Reid has just a handful of experienced players at his disposal, but is willing to bide his time as the big kick-off draws nearer.

He said: "We have a small squad and we are looking to add to it. We have two or three players in training with us, but there is nothing concrete, as yet.

"I feel there will be players available nearer the back end of the window.

"We will see how things go. We will be patient and spend our money wisely.

"We can't afford to make mistakes because things are tight at the club. We have to get value for money."

Reid saw his side in action for the first time this summer as they saw off a St Johnstone XI in a bounce game last week.

And the Accies boss hopes tonight's trip to Stenhousemuir will prove a useful exercise as they continue their preparations ahead of the new season. He said: "The training has been good so far. We have a lot of young players in the squad and we are happy with them.

"We have been doing the same things for a number of years and it has served us well.

"The players are enjoying it. We have got some really good games to look forward to.

"We had a bounce game against St Johnstone and that went pretty well. We are very early in pre- season and I won't look at the result too much.

"Of course, it is always nice to win, everybody always plays to win. The Stenhousemuir game will be another breaking-in game and allow players to get some match time. It is a surface we should be able to pass the ball on.

"We will use most of the squad again and give a chance to some of the younger players."
