PETER HORNE is determined to make an impact with Glasgow Warriors this season.

The versatile back was out for eight months after shoulder surgery, but has featured in Warriors' two friendlies in the build-up to Friday night's league opener at Ulster.

Horne was a second-half substitute against Sale, where he scored a try, and impressed from the start against Exeter.

As he looked forward to the start of the RaboDirect PRO12 campaign, the Warriors star spoke of his high hopes for the new term.

Horne said: "It was frustrating to be out for eight months and effectively lose a whole season.

"I was delighted to get the try against Sale and start against Exeter. Hopefully I have been able to make a case for myself with regards to the start of the season against Ulster.

"My target is to be involved every week and try and play a part in a successful Warriors side."

While the likes of Stuart Hogg and Alex Dunbar were grabbing all the headlines last season, Horne is keen to make an impact this time around.

He said: "I took belief from the way that Hoggy and Alex had such great seasons last time.

"Glasgow have always been a club that brings through their own and give you a chance, and I can see under Gregor Townsend that is not going to change. I am hoping I have shown over the two friendlies I can make a contribution."

Looking forward to Friday's PRO12 opener at Ravenhill, Horne says he can't wait for the big kick-off.

"It has seemed like a long summer, but the first game is almost here," he said. "And there is a great belief in the squad we can mount a challenge for silverware."
