IAN BLACK today admitted he and his Rangers team-mates were embarrassed by their shocking showing at Berwick.

Ally McCoist's side were held to a 1-1 draw at Shielfield by the part-timers, who had a late strike from Chris Townsley chalked off as the Gers breathed a sigh of relief that their afternoon didn't get even worse.

McCoist blasted his sloppy stars at the end of the game. His side have now drawn their three away fixtures this season following stalemates at Brechin in the Ramsdens Cup and their opening Irn-Bru Third Division fixture at Peterhead.

Black, who revealed the Ibrox boss gave his troops a dressing-room dressing-down, said: "Speaking on behalf of all the boys, I think we're all actually embarrassed. I think we know it was up there with the worst games any of us have played in.

"Every one of us needs to think hard and take a look at ourselves and pick it up next Sunday against Elgin.

"We're not doing the hard bit first. We've just expected to turn up and win and we know that's not the case. I think everyone thought that.

"We need to roll up our sleeves and go and win games. The manager had a few words and we have to get on with it.

"He only wants what's best for the club and he's quite right to have a go at every one of us.

"We need to make him happy, the fans happy and go and win games."

Despite taking a first-half lead through Andy Little, the Gers were nowhere near their best against Ian Little's side at Shielfield.

Fraser McLaren fired home an equaliser for the part-timers, who then had skipper Chris Townsley's final-minute header disallowed.

Black felt the full force of Berwick's desire throughout the Irn-Bru Third Division clash, with the 27-year-old the victim of a crude early lunge from midfield compatriot Lee Currie.

Currie was booked for the challenge and Black reckons referee Mike Tumelty let the Berwick star off lightly.

He told www.rangers.co.uk: "I was very unhappy and what makes it worse is that their coach spoke to me and said it was a straight red as well.

"I think the referee will take a look at it and admit he was wrong. I imagine if that had been me I would probably have been walking up the tunnel."

Meanwhile, McCoist blasted his players, saying: "Brechin was a jolt, Peterhead was a jolt, Falkirk gave us a right good game ... I don't know how many jolts we want. We could have lost.

"We looked as though there was a lack of confidence, a lack of sharpness. You would struggle to give any of the boys pass marks."

McCoist refused to question his players' attitude, but says they must improve quickly.

He said: "That is probably as big a criticism you can level at any player so I would be loathe to say that.

"But we have problems in terms of the way we are playing because that is miles short."
