Republic of Ireland midfielder Stephen Hunt has made a veiled criticism of Scotland's Charlie Adam for being arrogant.

Hunt hinted the Blackpool skipper had niggled some Irish players because of his attitude during Sunday's Carling Nations Cup decider.

He did not mention Adam by name, but alluded to the dangers of a Scottish player believing his own hype and undermining the entire team's morale by thinking he was better than the others.

"I haven't really seen much of Scotland during the Euro 2012 campaign, but if they keep the team together and build on that then they can grow," said Hunt.

"They have some quality players, but the key thing is to stay a team.

"You don't want certain individuals thinking they are Pele. I won't mention names. Put two and two together and can work it out-"

Hunt, whose brother Noel used to play for Dundee United, also said he hoped Wolves team-mate Steven Fletcher would resolve his differences with national boss Craig Levein.

Fletcher has made himself unavailable after being left out of the side by Levein and the impasse shows no sign of being resolved.

Hunt said: Steven is a really good player. For the last six or seven games at Wolves he was fantastic. I hope that one day maybe he can come back to Scotland."

Hunt stressed his own respect for Levein. "I have a lot of time for Craig because he was coach at Dundee United when my brother was at Tannadice. He's always done a good job with his teams."
