PARTICK THISTLE boss Jackie McNamara could dip into the transfer market once again before the start of the Irn-Bru First Division campaign – with a striker set to be top of his shopping list.

The Jags gaffer has brought three new faces to Firhill so far during the close season, with St Mirren legend Hugh Murray, former Fir Park starlet Steven Lawless and ex-Annan ace Aaron Muirhead all signing on the dotted line just days after the end of the season.

A deal has also been struck to bring Sean Welsh back to the club following his release from Hibernian while new deals have been handed out to a host of first team stars including captain Alan Archibald, defender Paul Paton and striker Mark McGuigan.

McNamara was keen to conduct his business quickly this summer and wasted little time in delving into the transfer market.

The Firhill gaffer is delighted with how his squad is shaping up ahead of their return to pre-season training later this month and admits adding to his attacking arsenal could be his only other move this window.

He said: "That is us more or less done. The ones we have brought in were the main ones we wanted to get sorted out.

"There have been targets that we have missed out on, there was a striker we looked at but that is football.

"I will see how we do during pre-season and we will see if we need anything else in the squad.

"But, at the moment, I am really happy with the squad. We have got competition for places all over the park.

"If anything, it would probably be another striker. In every other position, I think we are covered at the moment.

"There are still boys on the books that we will have a look at in pre-season and then take it from there."

While there has been plenty of arrivals at Firhill this summer, McNamara has also seen a number of players leave the club thus far.

Willie Kinniburgh has terminated his Jags contract to join the police, Paul Cairney has not accepted an offer to extend his deal while Tommy Stewart, Kieran Burns and Gavin Griffin have been released.

There is unlikely to be much more movement but McNamara may look into securing a loan move for kid goalkeeper Ryan Scully to help give him a sustained taste of first-team football.

The Jags manager said: "In an ideal world, that could happen but it needs to be somewhere where he would be playing every week.

"It would do him the world of good to be playing every week because he has shown he has a lot of potential. We would then have to get someone in as cover.

"It is about getting that happy medium where it helps both of us."
