Jordan moves up to Clan's hotseat

BRAEHEAD Clan's Canadian affair will continue with the appointment of Jordan Krestanovich as player-coach.

The 31-year-old, who has been with club since they were formed two years ago, has taken over from fellow countryman Drew Bannister, now assistant coach at Canadian junior team Owen Sound Attack.

Krestanovich, a former NHL left wing with Colorado Avelanche, had pledged his future to the Clan prior to the coach's job becoming vacant.

He said: "My time with the Clan has been enjoyable and hard work, but I have always thought that, eventually, I would head into a coaching role.

"When I heard Drew had left, I contacted (general manager) Kirsty Longmuir and expressed my interest in the role of player-coach.

"I think the Clan has accomplished so much on and off the ice in their short existence.

"But I think there is room for improvement and progression.

"I look forward to bringing in guys that I know will not only be skilled, but also be ready to work hard as a team on and off the ice."

The appointment of Krestanovich will give a faint hope to Clan fans that Jade Galbraith, the Elite League top scorer last season, may return to the Braehead ice next season.

The fellow countrymen had become friends during last year, and Longmuir is hopeful Krestanovich can play his part in keeping top talent in the Braehead ranks.

She said: "It is good to have a player-coach on board who has ties with the club.

"He has played here for two seasons, knows the fans, players, league, the arena, the location etc.

"I have no doubt he will do a fantastic job recruiting players."
