Andy Cameron hopes team unity will enable his St Roch's side to hit the ground running when the 2016/17 Junior season gets underway.

The Candy Rock boss was delighted to confirm reports that he has signed every single player from last season ‘s playing squad that finished an impressive fifth top of the Central First Division pile.

And his early moves on the Junior transfer scene are set to be rewarded with a hat-trick of new arrivals at the James McGrory Stadium in the shape of midfielder Kieran Daw (Petershill), goalkeeper Conor Boyle (Queen's Park) and experienced defender John Carter (Rob Roy).

Andy revealed: "Playing at First Division level was a huge learning curve for everyone connected with St Roch's last time out and I felt the players exceeded all our expectations with their performances .

“And my belief is they will be all the better for the experience, hence my reasons for asking the guys to put pen to paper once again and I couldn’t be more pleased that they have to a man agreed to commit their futures here .

“The likes of John Sweeney, Jordan Logan and T’J’ Mcluskey are on the radar of higher league Junior sides and could easily have moved on elsewhere but they are firmly behind our plans for this club and that is very encouraging.”

The popular Garngad gaffer went on to talk up his new signings by adding: "It’s no secret we tried to get Daw on board last summer only for him to join the Peasy and the prospect of him and Sweeney propping up our engine room is one to be savoured.

“Conor is a relatively young goalkeeper who made a great impression during a loan stint at Arthurlie and I’m convinced he will mount a strong challenge for the gloves worn by John Stark who was our Player of the Year.

“And our capture of big Carter is intended to redress our lack of defensive experience which cost us dearly in terms of goals and points in the season just ended.

“And right now my thoughts are to bring on board just one or two more key additions to complete our team building work ahead of a tough pre-season programme of games which includes back to back contests with the Scottish Junior Cup finalists Beith and Pollok .”

Thought to be intersting St Roch's and their near neighbours Glasgow Perthshire is defender Simon Marriot, one of four players transfer listed at Ardrossan Winton Rovers along with striker Graham Boyd and experienced pair Ben Carson and Michael Holden who are reputedly sought after by Irvine Meadow where former Winton team-mates Michael Wardrope and Gareth Turner are the new management team.

Meanwhile, one hears that Shettleston’s failure to retain their Super Premier Division status is set to herald the departure of bustling front man Scott Anson.

He is said to have shaken hands on a deal to join newly-promoted Cumnock where he could team up with former Greenfield Park striking team-mate Calum McRobbie who has moved to Townhead Park from Albion Rovers.

Anson refused to confirm or deny circulating stories when saying: "I’m keeping my options open but I cannot deny the opportunity to stay at the top level of the game is very tempting.

“Cumnock are undoubtedly a club on the up under John McKeown and I have unfinished business there after a hugely enjoyable previous playing stint was cut short by work commitments.

A switch to Ayrshire for Anson could see him resume hostilities with powerful Rob Roy stopper Danny Boyle believed to be on the verge of putting pen to paper for West Region kingpins Auchinleck Talbot whose other close season signing targets are rumoured to include Kevin Bradley (Pollok) and their ex-front man John Boyle.

Another leading Ayrshire outfit, Hurlford United are in discussions with released Albion Rovers hitman John Gemmell, reckoned to be a potential replacement for the highly regarded Ross Robertson whose signature is allegedly been sought by Troon.
