Gary McCann says he’s honoured to sign for Pollok and insists he can’t wait to pull on the iconic black and white stripes.

It was announced earlier this week that the highly-rated winger would be playing his football at Newlandsfield Park this season after agreeing a move to the Super League Premier Division side.

McCann joins the Lok from recently relegated Irvine Meadow and says he’s delighted to be able to fulfil his childhood dream of playing for Pollok.

He said: “I’m over the moon to be joining Pollok.

“It’s been a hectic few weeks with people phoning me about potential offers and stuff like that, but it’s brilliant to finally get a deal done and I’m delighted to be joining such a huge club.

“I’m honoured to be able to get this chance, Pollok are a massive club with an amazing history so to get the chance to sign for them is unbelievable.”

McCann added: “I never thought I would get the opportunity to come and play for Pollok.

“When I was a boy I used to go and watch junior football and whenever I saw Pollok play it was a special experience.

“So for me to be able to pull on their jersey and say I’m a Pollok player is definitely a dream come true.”

McCann is Pollok manager Tony McInally’s first summer signing and he says he couldn’t think of any better player to start with.

He said: “Gary is a terrific player and I’m delighted to be able to unveil him as my first signing of the season.

“He’s a player that’s been on my radar for a while and I’ve made it known in the past that I was interested in him so I’m very happy to finally be able to bring him to Pollock.”

Ever since the announcement was made the junior game has been a hive of excitement, however, some are questioning if McCann will be able to live up to the hype.

McInally laughed off the doubters and made it clear he believes McCann will live up to expectations and then some.

He said: “Gary is a very level headed boy and he’ll take all the online chat in his stride and get on with his job.

“I’ve no doubts that Gary will live up to his reputation, he’s a quality player and he’s joining a team packed with quality, so that will only help enhance him as a player.”

Pollok had to fight off a number of junior teams for McCann’s signature, including the like of Hurlford United, Troon and Premier Division champions Auchinleck Talbot, however, the winger insists that he was only ever going to be Newlandsfield Park bound.

McCann said: “I had a lot of people chasing me, but as soon as I found out that Pollok were interested in me I knew that’s the move I’d be making.

“Don’t get me wrong, there were some really good deals on the table from other clubs, but for me it’s not about the money.

“I don’t play football to make money, I play football because I love the sport and also because I want to win things and I think I’ve got the great chance to do that here at Pollok.”

While Gary McCann is making the switch from Irvine Meadow to Pollok, Mark McLennan has made a move in the opposite direction.

It was announced yesterday morning that the full back would be joining the recently relegated Ayrshire outfit.

But before departing Newlandsfield Park McLennan took time to wish Pollok the best of luck for the campaign ahead.

He said: “I wish everyone at Pollok all the best for next season, it's been a great team to be part of but now it’s time for a new challenge."
