Petershill are not certainties to qualify for the Exsel Group Sectional League Cup last eight if they come out on top in tomorrow’s clash against city rivals Shettleston at Greenfield Park.

So says Peasy boss Willie Patterson who adamantly refuses to accept that a third consecutive Section 3 victory will secure a place in the quarter finals for the reigning Cup holders.

He insisted “It’s only natural for whoever comes out on top between ourselves and Shettleston to be regarded as favourites to qualify but no more than that.

“We’ll both have two matches left to play after Saturday and you cannot rule out the likelihood of points being dropped given the quality of teams waiting in line.

“It’s an old cliche but taking one game at a time is the best way to go about our business and that means focusing on Shettleston and nobody else.

“You risk getting your come-uppance by taking things for granted in Junior football and that message will be drummed home to our players.”

The seasoned gaffer ,left gutted by his side’s relegation fate last season ,has wielded the axe to make wholesale changes to his Springburn playing squad ,retaining just five players and bringing on board no less than 15 new signings.

Willie said ,”Changes were an absolute necessity particularly middle to front as we just didn’t score enough goals last time.

“Mikey White is back at the club to compete for the gloves with Franny Hughes and there’s a solid look to us defensively after this week’s addition of Kevin Nicoll , a top notch defender who could have been lining up in opposition tomorrow as I believe Shettleston were one of the teams chasing his signature.

“Liam Finnigan and Jordan Murch have returned to bolster our midfield where there’s a decent mix of flair and work rate from Connor Stevenson (Vale of Clyde) , Alex Cassells (Rossvale) and playmaker Paul Callander (Maryhill) however we’ve also added real pace in the shape of young prospects Luke Crerand and Stuart McCann.

“And further forward we’ve introduced Jason Hardie from Johnstone Burgh and a more familiar face in Chrissy Hall whose two year stint at Irvine Meadow was ruined by injury however he’s now looking in the best shape he’s been for years and I’ve high hopes of him making a real impact.

“We appear to have all the bases covered with the added plus of a fit again Stephen McGladrigan however taking on Shettleston in their own backyard will provide a real test of the team’s potential.”

Town co-player/bosses Peter Weatherson and Ryan McStay have been leading by example with both ex-Seniors netting in Wednesday’s thrilling 5-4 victory over Bellshill Athletic und they look certain to lead a much changed Shettleston …only three players remain from last season…in tomorrow’s showdown.

Another eagerly awaited head to head of teams boasting 100% records takes place at Guys Meadow where Rob Roy host the visit of Kilsyth Rangers while early season shock troops Ashfield will be going all out to post their third win on the spin when Yoker Athletic come through to Saracen Park.

Ardagh Glass Cup holders Hurlford United will look to get back on the rails following their 4-3 midweek reverse at the hands of Irvine Meadow when entertaining near neighbours Darvel while the Medda will seek to promote their qualification hopes when going up against Ardeer Thistle at Meadow Park.

Transfer listed Ardrossan Winton Rovers front man Graham Boyd ,score of two goals playing as a trialist against Hurlford will be going all out to convince Medda gaffers Michael Wardrope and Gareth Turner to make his move a permanent one.

Another highly rated front man whose availability is sure to have a number of team bosses looking to bolster their playing ranks is Willie McLaren , placed on the open to transfer list at Forth Wanderers where his bagging 25 goals last season proved instrumental in helping the Lanarkshire outfit Take the Central Second Division title ;honours .
