Andy Cameron reckons home form will be crucial if his St Roch's side are to build on a winning start to the

Junior season.

Goals from Baboucarr Mussa, John Sweeney, Keiran Daw and Declan Docherty enabled the Garngad outfit to run out 4-0 winners over Vale of Clyde in their Central First Division opener at the James McGrory Stadium last weekend.

Tomorrow has the Candy Rock hosting the visit of another city rival in the shape of Benburb.

The game has been switched from New Tinto Park to accommodate crack amateurs Colville Park playing Girvan in a Scottish Cup preliminary round tie.

And Cameron desperate for his side to maintain their momentum by picking up another three-point haul.

And he has every right to be feeling confident heading into the clash given that his St Roch's side boast an impressive track record of tasting defeat just once in the last 21 games played in front of their own supporters.

He said: "There’s no denying the guys thrive on our home ground surroundings and with the backing provided by local fans, which is very encouraging when you think five of our opening six fixtures are going ahead at the James McGrory inclusive of crunch Cup ties against Kilwinning Rangers and Muirkirk.

“But that’s not to say we always perform to our best at home because I believe our overall display against Vale of Clyde was patchy to say the least and hinged to a great extent upon us scoring a wonder goal just before the half time whistle blew and then doubling our lead minutes into the restart.

“ Hand on heart, I would say things could just as easily have panned out differently had Ian Currie’s men scored first.”

The hard-working gaffer is predicting a tough 90 minutes against the promoted Bens and is contemplating one or two changes to his winning line-up.

He added: "We are working with a relatively smallish squad of just 17 players, but the quality of the guys at my beck and call is truly frightening.

“Robert McGuire, a near ever present last season, was left out against the Tin Pail because he had just returned from holiday and was considered short of match fitness.

“But he’s trained this week to put himself into my selection thoughts and I also have to consider the merits of our latest signing Jordan McCue.

"He has a pretty decent playing pedigree having formerly been on the books of Hamilton Accies where he and Brian McQueen were team-mates.”

Commenting on the availability of players caused Cameron to reflect on the plight of striking ace T.J. McLuskey who recently underwent surgery to try and rid him of ulcerative colitis - the same inflammatory condition which struck down Scotland captain Darren Fletcher at the very peak of his Manchester United playing career .

The Candy Rock boss said: "T.J. is only 22 and it will help his battle against the illness to have time on his side, however there are no guarantees that he will ever be able to get back playing football..

“It will be devastating if that is the case, but what’s more important is he recovers sufficiently to lead a normal life again.”

Benburb are set to be boosted for their trip across city by the return from holiday of Scott Jarvie, while ex-Shettleston winger Ryan McCrone is tipped to declare himself fit and ready after an injury absence.

But the game is coming too soon for Paul Sweeney, Josh Meeking and Sean Gallagher as well as former Dumbarton goalkeeper Nathan Adger, looking set to be ruled out of action for the next five to six weeks after dislocating his shoulder.

Bens gaffer Paul Lovering revealed: "It’s no exaggeration to say we’ve been crippled by injuries and trying to take on Johnstone Burgh last Saturday without seven regulars gave us a mountain to climb.

“That said we served up a real Jekyll and Hyde performance and found ourselves 3-0 down at half-time before a dressing room rant from myself sparked a revival of sorts albeit we still lost 3-1 .

“Getting back on the rails at St Roch's is a huge ask as I’ve seen them in action this season and couldn’t help but be impressed with the control exerted by the midfield duo of John Sweeney and Keiran Daw while further forward Jordan Logan’s movement poses problems for defenders.

“I’m setting our guys no other targets other than to give a good account of ourselves and see where it gets us.”

The Candy Rock’s status as early pacesetters could come under threat with second placed Johnstone Burgh hoping to make home advantage tell against Wishaw while yet another of the opening day victors Rossvale will be fancied to come good when Lesmahagow come through to New Petershill Park.

And something has to give in the Somervell Park clash of Cambuslang Rangers and Greenock while Larkhall Thistle’s head to head ith Neilston will also have ramifications for the league standings.
