St Roch's may have taken another step closer to realising their dream of bringing Superleague football to the Garngad for the very first time with the bold captures of ex-Senior pair Jordan Halsman and Stevie Logan.

Team boss Andy Cameron did not hesitate to move for the midfield duo following their much-publicised departures from Shettleston last weekend.

And he reckons the twin acquisitions will act as a timely boost for his Candy Rock playing squad as they prepare to turn for home in the Central First Division title race.

And little wonder when one considers the outstanding pedigrees of both players.

Giffnock-raised Halsman has played with Aberdeen, Morton and notably in the Premier League with Motherwell prior to a two-year stint in Iceland's top league before returning to these shores to turn out with Cowdenbeath and Elgin City.

But the chore of extensive travelling made it easy for ex-Morton team mate Peter Weatherson to persuade him to put pen to paper for Shettleston.

Tough-tackling Logan is less travelled and was on the books of Newcastle as a teenager where he faced down hig-h profile reserve league opponents in Daniel Sturridge and Paul Pogba.

He ended up at Annan Athletic where his team-mates included Weatherson and Ryan McStay so he was happy to throw in his lot with them at Greenfield Park this season.

Their football journey now takes them to the James McGrory Stadium, much to the delight of ambitious gaffer Cameron.

He said: "Rab McGuire and Stephen Bryson were our mid-season additions during my first season with St Roch's and their arrivals acted to give the team a massive a lift in much the same way as last January’s signing of John Sweeney from Pollok.

“Hopefully our landing Jordan and Stevie will also do the trick in this respect and I believe it’s only right to seize this opportunity given we have been operating with just 16 outfield players for the vast majority of our games.

"We probably need to boost playing numbers before the inevitable injuries ,suspensions and work commitments take a toll.

“And what better time to add a bit of competition for the starting jerseys in light of us losing back to back home games against Forth Wanderers and Rossvale?”

His latest dealings on the Junior transfer scene are another surefire sign of Cameron having considerably raised the profile of the Garngad club who were sitting second bottom of the Central Second Division when he took up the manager’s post just two years ago.

St Roch's were struggling to sign decent amateurs back then, but their last seven newcomers in recent times have made their way from the higher profile likes of Shettleston (2), Petershill (2), Clyde (1) , Rob Roy (1 ) and Pollok(1).

Cameron added: “Bringing in players who have been near or at the top of the Junior ladder means their sights are set higher and that mind-set has certainly helped us.

“And the team doing well out on the pitch is reflected by the amount of local people coming along to games as our home gates are nowadays around the 300 mark when they were previously 25-50 folk at best.

“A lot of hard work has gone into this transformation and I would love to see it rewarded with a step-up to the Super First Division, but that’s proving easier said than done in this very competitive First Division.

“We play host to second bottom Bellshill Athletic this week and will be regarded as strong favourites but they are a more than decent side whom we only beat with an injury time goal earlier this season so I’m anticipating another close fought 90 minutes.

”Larkhall Thistle, Rossvale and Wishaw are all coming into the promotion reckoning and we cannot afford any more slip-ups…especially at home.”

Cameron has also agreed to allow comeback striker T.J.McLuskey to go back out on loan to Central Second Division outfit East Kilbride Thistle, where he enjoyed a successful loan stint last season.

He said: "T.J. is on his way back from a long spell out with injury and needs game time which cannot be guaranteed here.

“He’s likely to get it at East Kilbride where he made a great impression by scoring a lot of goals last time and the plan is for him to go there for the next six weeks or so and return to us as a fitter and better prepared player in March.

“The big bonus is he’s not cup-tied ahead of Thistle taking on Glenafton in their Scottish Junior Cup4th round tie this coming Saturday .”

A more permanent move is likely to be in the offing for Gartcairn striker Yami Misanjo whose placing on the open to transfer list is set to attract a number of suitors.
