St Roch's manager Andy Cameron has labelled this weekend's game against promotion rivals Larkhall Thistle his side's biggest game of the season.

The Candy Rock currently occupy one of two promotion spots in the Central District First Division, sitting second in the table behind leaders Cambuslang Rangers.

However, Cameron’s side are only five points in front of Larkhall, having played two games more than the South Lanarkshire club.

Cameron says he’s aware of how devastating a loss could be to his side's promotions hope but insists his team are good enough to open up an eight-point gap between the two sides.

He said: “We have ten league games left to play this season, five at home and five away and two of them are against Larkhall who are just behind us in the league.

“The games against them are massive for us as I believe they are the only team below us that could catch us and stop us getting promotion.

“So when you take that into account it's so important for us to get the win on Saturday as it’s our biggest game of the season so far.”

Cameron added: “A win on Saturday is also so important for us because Larkhall have two games in hand over us which we have no control over.

“However, if we win this weekend we’ll open up an eight-point gap between us and them which would mean even if they win their games in hand we will still be ahead of them.”

“Getting a result against them won't be easy. In fact, I’m expecting Saturday’s game to be one of the hardest all season.

“Larkhall are one of the best teams in the league and I know we will need to be at our best to win but I’m backing my side to do just that.”

St Roch’s go into Saturday's game at James McGrory Park with the unwanted record of having never beaten Larkhall under Andy Cameron.

However, Cameron was quick to dismiss any claims that this fact would have any impact on Saturday's game.

He said: “Since I’ve been the manager here I haven’t been able to beat Larkhall, we played them three times last year and our best result against them was a 4-4 draw.

“The other two games we got beaten, they won 3-0 in the first tie and then later in the season they knocked us out the cup.

“It’s not a record we want to have but it’s meaningless in terms of this weekend, I know if we play at our best we can beat them.“

St Roch’s game against Benburb was one of only a handful of games not to be postponed at the weekend.

A double from Gambian front man Baboucarr Musa was enough to secure St Roch’s a 2-1 away victory.

Cameron admits it wasn’t the best display he has seen from his side this season but says he’s happy to win even when his side aren’t at their best.

Speaking after the game, Cameron said: “Benburb was a tough one, we played well in the first half, but I have to admit in the second 45 they were the better team.

“But in the end, we managed to dig in and get the result that we wanted which was great because it shows even when we aren't at our best we are still capable of coming away with the points.”

He added: Baboucarr Musa was the real difference between the two sides on Saturday, he played great and scored our two goals.

“But now he’s got those goals I expect it to give him a big boost in confidence and hopefully he will continue to find the net for us going forward.”

Elsewhere, the draw for the quarter-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup was made yesterday afternoon.

The draw as conducted by former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough, who drew the away team, and football pundit Peter Martin, who was in charge of picking the home teams.

One contender for the tie of the round is East Superleague holders Bonnyrigg Rose at home against West of Scotland Super League Premier Division leaders Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

Another game that is being touted by many as the tie of the round will see 11-time Junior Cup winners Auchinleck Talbot face fellow Ayrshire outfit Kilwinning Rangers.

Alan Rough also set up a home tie for his former employer’s Glenafton by picking Sauchie Juniors as their opponents in the next round.

One side that didn’t find out who they would be facing was Central District Second Division side Gartcairn, they will face the winners of Saturday’s final fifth-round tie between Maryhill and Linlithgow Rose.

All Scottish Junior Cup quarter-final fixtures are scheduled to be played on March 18 with all kick-offs expected to be 2.30pm.
