Kirkintilloch Rob Roy manager Stewart Maxwell has warned his players are hungry for more cup success in 2017.

The Rabs won their first trophy in 43 years earlier this season, beating Shettleston on penalties in the final of the Central Sectional League Cup.

Now Maxwell says his side have their eyes on adding more silverware to the Kirkintilloch club's trophy cabinet.

Rob Roy square off with Ayrshire District League table-toppers Ardrossan Winton Rovers in the West of Scotland Cup this weekend.

And, while the Kirkie boss admits it’s a tournament his side wants to win, he says he’s not looking beyond the Ayrshire club.

Maxwell said: “My side has already proven they have what it takes to win a cup and I know that they are hungry to get their hands on even more silverware this season.

“But to do that the players know they have to keep their performance levels high and a high-quality performance is what we will need to get past Ardrossan in the West of Scotland Cup this weekend.

“The West of Scotland Cup is another competition we want to do well in, I think it’s the second biggest cup in Junior football and it’s one we want to win.

“However, we can’t look too far ahead, we need to focus on beating Ardrossan because it won’t be an easy game.

“They are going well in their league and I’m sure Sandy MacLean will have his boys well motivated so for us to win we need to give it our all.”

Maxwell’s squad hasn’t featured many changes as of late, but the Rob Roy boss says he will be making a few tweaks to his starting line-up on Saturday.

However, he is keen to stress that doesn’t mean he will be fielding a weakened team this weekend.

He said: “I think I will be rotating the squad a bit this weekend, I haven’t made many changes to the team recently, but I think I will make a few for Saturday’s game.

“That doesn't mean I will be putting out a weakened squad by any means, as I said Ardrossan will give us a hard game, it just means I will be giving a few of the other lads some game time.”

Given the fact Rob Roy have won 12 out of 12 games in cup competitions this season some fans have taken to calling the Rabs cup specialists.

However, manager Stewart Maxwell has been keen to distance himself from that title instead insisting that his side are just a good side overall.

He said: “Some people have labelled us as cup specialist due to our good cup form this season, but I’m not sure I like that term.

“Yes, we have done well in our cup games this season, but we have also shown that we are a good league team as well.

“Having said that, it’s not like I will lose any sleep over being called cup specialist, I just think we are a tough side to play in all competitions.”

In other cup news, it was revealed earlier this week that Rob Roy would face an away trip to East Superleague holders Bonnyrigg Rose in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Maxwell admits it’s a difficult draw, but insists he’s confident his side have what it takes to book their place in the semi-finals.

He said: “We have been given another tough draw in the Junior Cup, in fact, an away draw against Bonnyrigg is probably the hardest we could have gotten.

“I will be expecting nothingness than a very difficult game, both sides will go into the match knowing they are good enough to win.

“However, I more than confident that we can come away from their place with a win if we play to the standards that we have been playing at so far this season.”
