MARYHILL'S Gavin Stokes scored one of the fastest goals of all time over the weekend after netting directly from kick-off against Clydebank.

The McBookie West Super League First Division clash got off to a dramatic start when Stokes launched a superb long-range strike from the halfway line into the top corner with the first kick of the game.

It got his side off to the ideal start and they capitalised by securing a 3-0 win, with the goal later proving to be a huge hit on social media.

A time of 2.1 seconds makes the strike significantly quicker than the Scottish Premiership record of 10 seconds set by Kris boyd against Ross County earlier this season.

Stokes' wonderstrike has gone straight to number two in Wikipedia's list of the fastest goals ever scored, a tenth of a second behind Nawaf Al Abed's effort for Al Hilal against Al Shoalah in Saudi Arabia seven years ago.

However, it could yet be named the quickest of all time as Al Abed's record is disputed due to the match later being declared void due to ineligible players being fielded.
